Content:Focusing on space applications, this module teaches the fundamental skill set necessary for the successful realization of software system projects. Beginning with project management aspect and use-case analysis, the module comprehensively discusses the software engineering process, relevant technologies, as well as the subject of software test and verification.
The module covers these aspects theoretically and practically. In parallel to the lecture, students shall apply theoretical knowledge to their own software project at which they define, manage, implement, test and demonstrate a space application for a larger software system.

Content:The goal of the Space Station Design Workshop event is to develop a space station within a week in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team with participants from all over the world. The material covered in the lectures during the studies is applied to the design of an entire subsystem. Relevant subsystems include, for example, structure, thermal, life support systems, mission analysis, in-situ resource utilization, and others. Experts from universities, industry, and research provide supervision.
About 40 people from various fields of study participate, divided into two teams.

Participation after successful application at https://www.spacestationdesignworkshop.com/

Exam: 20-minute oral exam after successful completion of the workshop.

The Space Station Design Workshop takes place annually in the last week of August. The venue alternates between the University of Stuttgart (2025, 2027,…) and the Technical University of Munich (2026,2028,...)
