Lectures in the coming term

Number:397170000
Lecturers:Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Claas Olthoff
Felicitas Leese
Type:Lecture
Sh:2
Teaching Language:German
Semester:WS 26/27
Organisation:Raumfahrtsysteme
Content:The fundamentals of science communication are covered in the lecture portion of the course. Working in small tandem teams with students from the University of Media, you will then define your own projects, through which you will develop practical skills: analyzing the target medium and the target audience, structuring a message, and tailoring the message for different channels.
At the end of the seminar, you will present your project.

Content:The module takes place every week. A lecture is held every other week, whilst the remaining weeks are set aside for discussing any questions arising from the homework assignments.

• To provide a foundation in object-oriented programming and the fundamentals of a life support system
• An introduction to relevant (modern) technical systems and their modelling
• Practical experience in object-oriented programming and modelling
• Consolidation of the knowledge gained from the Bachelor’s lectures in the fields of software engineering, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
• Understanding the functioning and structure of an innovative, technical life support system through the independent implementation of a virtual model in V HAB

Content:Over the course of the semester, several movies and tv show episodes will be watched and then discussed in the group. The discussions focus on the spaceflight technologies depicted and their scientific and technical feasibility.
Students must select one technology or spaceflight system depicted in any of the discussed movies or tv shows as the topic of a scientific paper that is to be submitted at the end of the semester. The topic of the paper must be accepted by the professor.

Trainings & Seminars in the coming term

Number:395000000
Lecturers:Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Claas Olthoff
Felicitas Leese
Dr.-Ing. Michael Lengowski
Type:Practical Training
Sh:2.5
Teaching Language:English/German
Semester:WS 26/27
Organisation:Raumfahrtsysteme
Content:As part of the work placement, students use the Spaceflight Simulator to familiarise themselves with the practical operation and handling of a spacecraft during various flight manoeuvres.
First, the knowledge of spacecraft systems acquired during their degree course is reviewed and consolidated. Detailed information is provided on the Soyuz spacecraft and other astronautical spacecraft and their systems. Under supervision, the
knowledge acquired is then put into practice during individual training sessions on the simulator. Students practise dealing with typical complex procedures, thereby improving their audiovisual perception, spatial awareness and motor skills.
In the second part of the work placement—Thermal Vacuum Testing—students are introduced to the fundamentals of an important environmental test in aerospace, after which they prepare, conduct, and evaluate their own TV test.
Two lecture sessions will cover the fundamentals of TV tests and the ESATAN thermal simulation software. This will be followed by the execution of the test in groups (teams of 3 people). The test must be evaluated, including thermal correlation analysis using ESATAN, and documented in a report of max. 20 pages.

The assessment for this module comprises:
- Spaceflight Simulator
-- Flight assessment
-- Written examination (60 mins)
Thermal Verification
-- Term paper
