The Institute of Space Systems is honored to welcome Dr. Wiley J. Larson, one of the world’s leading figures in space systems engineering, for an upcoming guest lecture titled “Lessons Learned Using AI to Support Space Systems Development and Operations” as part of THE aerospace TALKS.
Dr. Wiley J. Larson brings more than four decades of experience in space system development, operations, education, and training. A former U.S. Air Force officer, he has served in roles ranging from GPS spacecraft engineer to program manager and Associate Professor of Astronautics. He currently serves as President and CEO of CEI (Coyote Enterprises, Inc.) and has contributed to major initiatives at NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense, the International Space University, TU Delft, and TU Graz. As the longtime Author, Editor, and Program Director of the NASA–DOD Space Technology Series, he has led the development of more than 30 widely used books on spacecraft design, systems engineering, and mission operations.
In his lecture, Dr. Larson will share insights from three years of research and hands-on application of AI in collaboration with NASA and SpaceTech teams. He will discuss how AI accelerates early-phase systems engineering work, supports complex decision-making, and shifts attention toward mission-level reasoning and technical credibility. Attendees will gain an informed perspective on the most effective AI techniques, their limitations, and their value in real-time space operations.
We warmly invite all students, researchers, industry partners, and interested colleagues to join us for this special event.
