Stuttgart students at the ESA control center

Ground to Space - Stuttgart students visit the ESA Control Centre ESOC in Darmstadt.

As part of the yearly lecture on Space Stations 20 Stuttgart students could take a deep look behind the scenes of satellite control. Dr. Florian Renk - himself alumnus of IRS - explained the different types of missions flown fromout ESOC and the challenges of controlling satellites in remotest places on their long journeys.

Whether in the Main Control Room (MCR, see photo) - were history has been made with missions like ROSETTA - or in one of the back rooms, the students learned a lot about their potential future role in competent teams with cutting edge operation methods.
