The lecture series Astronautics and Space Stations (V39588) is held each summer semester and accounts for 2 SWS. Students can register for the lecture as part of the specialization Space Systems or as an elective course.
The lecture addresses general topics in astronautics as well as the conceptual design of manned space systems and missions beyond low-Earth orbit. Therefore, it complements the lecture series Space Stations in the winter semester.
Contents of the lecture are the objectives of human space exploration in the 21st century, including reviews of the Apollo missions and systems, and the presentation and analysis of future human exploration scenarios. The lecture series will work through the top-level aspects of mission analysis and systems engineering, addressing the challenges of the conceptual design of exploration architectures. Subsequently, launch and transportation systems as well as life support systems for space exploration will be discussed.
