  1. Payload on Ulysses

The "Ulysses" space probe operated from October 6th, 1990, to June 2009 and investigated the interplanetary space at high inclinations against the ecliptic. She flew over the poles while measuring the solar wind, magnetic field and performing radio science. It also carried a device for dust particles which was identical to the dust detector on the Galileo spacecraft. The instrument was mounted on the equipment platform that had a fixed direction pointing.

Payload on Ulysses

The Ulysses dust detector is identical to the Galileo dust detecor. The following pictures show how it looks like and where it is connected to the spacecraft. The figure to the right shows the Ulysses payload including our dust detecor (the dark orange "can" on the right side -- click on picture for full-size).
